PEACE for Families Welcomes New Executive Director

Award-Winning Director Will Lead Placer County’s Primary

AUBURN, Calif. – PEACE for Families, Placer County's primary domestic violence and sexual assault victims advocate organization, has appointed Michelle Coleman as its new executive director.

Coleman has a long history of working with community organizations helping those most in need. Her recent accomplishments come from her time with WEAVE Inc. in Sacramento, where she served as associate director and helped establish programs that raised awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault. Under her guidance, WEAVE collaborated with local partners to establish much-needed grants to continue long-tem funding of vital programs.

“We are delighted to have Michelle in the driver’s seat at PEACE for Families,” said Lauren Peters, president of the PEACE for Families board of directors. “She provides an in-depth, working knowledge of domestic violence, legislation and women’s shelter issues.”

California Assemblywoman Fiona Ma honored Coleman in October 2009 for her testimony and recommendations provided to the Assembly Select Committee on Domestic Violence. Coleman was also recognized by the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault in August 2009 for her statewide work on sexual assault issues.

Coleman’s background includes education in Youth and Human Service Agency Administration and Nonprofit Management. She received her degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin in 1980.
